Start by building on. Starting to write can feel uncomfortable, so I suggest revising an old draft. That way, you can revisit your thoughts, and get new inspiration. You can also learn from your past mistakes. As a bonus, you'll feel way more confident writing after you've already edited.
Be organized. This is a big one, since it involves many aspects.
Have an inspiration collection. Collect some inspiring photos, quotes, music, and short stories to bring a spark of creativity. For example, I have a whole album of flower watercolors, and I visit a blog called Paperfury, which has some amazing spine art (like the one I used for this page) and cool lists. I also picked meditation music, and some thoughtful, slash free fanfics.
Show up having all you need. I know firsthand that it's really annoying to adjust fonts, change page brightness, the margins... That's why I keep a novel chapter format that I can clone, with all the adjustments pre made. That way, I can just write on the go.
Have a stationery collection. Believe it or not, there might be some benefit to all the journal and fancy but useless feather pen hoarding that we humans tend to do. When I see all my clean journals, beautiful and lavish pens, cute erasers, and countless stacks of ice cream sticky notes with unicorns, I'm tempted to write to not disappoint them.
Do something boring. I recently discovered how useful this could be. I was stuck with a pile of math questions and an unbearable writer’s block, so undoubtedly I chose the math question. In a millisecond after glaring at a page full of small fractions, my brain was suddenly filled with a complex soap opera involving a love septagon, accidental murder, and ghosts.
Make a mind map. This was stated so many times before that I gave up any hope of it working. Until I tried it. I wrote my character’s name at the center of a sheet, drew some beaches to connect her with others, and continued for half an hour. Afterwards, I still didn't have a plot, but at least I have twenty detailed bullet points to work with.
That’s it for now! I hear Evelyn calling my name. Remember,
Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise!
